I provide high quality end-user functional testing of software applications with both a developer focus and a product focus. I provide value for Development teams by detecting, analyzing, and reporting software defects that may not be apparent in automated or low-level tests but that manifest themselves in faulty end-user behavior. I provide value for Marketing and Product Management teams by validating that the software application addresses the requirements of the users for which it was designed. Testing the functional and non-functional, selecting valid and invalid inputs determining the correct output. These methods apply to all levels of software testing: unit, integration, system, regression and acceptance.Every software application has an audience; my purpose is to assure that specifications have been implemented, and that the final product delivered to the audience has met all acceptance criteria. To assure that the application does do what it is supposed to do and do what it needs to do.To accomplish this goal the writing and following of test scripts is crucial to the testing process, but so too is improvisation (exploratory testing), allowing your intuition to adjust to inflections on the scenarios and their results; intuiting everything a user can do (and all the ways they think of doing it) experiencing the application as novice might as well as the expert. While focusing on the user experience I do not lose sight of the developer’s needs. A single defect could result in a wide range of symptoms. It is vital to provide developers with the ability to examine what was happening at the point of failure by capturing and clearly presenting data in such a way, including screen shots that the developer can easily find the information they require. An irony that can potentially vex a team’s spirit when not acknowledged and continually held in a tester’s awareness. There is the tester who is continually attempting to cause the application to fail. There is the developer whose goal is to deliver, in a timely manner, a functional product.
