About Robert Mark Ihrig

This is the story of our lives, and the drama surrounding our restaurant and bar. We spent years engrossed in laying the groundwork, which led to our ambition getting off the ground. We opened Bob’s Gridiron Grille and the Pigskin Pub in Lincoln, Nebraska, known worldwide as Cornhusker country. Totally convinced my one-of-a-kind collection of Nebraska football memorabilia would be a draw, I was dead wrong.

Listed skills include Small Business, Appraisals, Entrepreneurship, Social Media, and 9 others.

In 2005, Susan and I relocated to Denver, Colorado. We had just closed down our restaurant in Lincoln, Nebraska - Bob's Gridiron Grille and the Pigskin Pub. Susan had worked for Lincoln General Hospital for the last twenty one years, and the first day she went out looking for a job, she had three offers, and has been with the same company since, as an RN case manager. I went back to what I was doing before, selling items on Ebay, and I started a small auction company called Cripple Creek Auctions, Inc., combining internet auctions with live estate auctions. Susan and I are both graduates of the Missouri Auction School, licensed auctioneers. We are also graduates of the Certified Appraisers Guild of America. We continue to appraise collections of sports memorabilia, which is our specialty. During this entire time, slowly we have been working on a book that we have titled, Million Dollar Party. It's a memoir, and about our dream of opening a restaurant of our own, and all the planning and work that went into it -- only to see it fail. The book will be available the summer of 2017.Our restaurant was decorated in my private collection of Nebraska Cornhusker football memorabilia, which I had spent the better part of my life accumulating. Anyone who has a inkling of opening a restaurant or a bar, I do believe it would be worth your while to check it out. Our web site will be listed shortly.

I started selling part time on Ebay in 1996, shortly after the company was launched. It eventually became a full time endeavor, until we opened our restaurant. I still sold a few items, but running a restaurant, you really don't have time to do much else. But, after we closed down the restaurant, I went back to selling on Ebay full time and incorporated Cripple Creek Auction in January of 2006. It has been my full time job since then, and continues to provide a revenue stream.I also work part time for Baker's Auction House in Denver, Colorado, the largest auction company in Denver, as a bid caller, cashier, and clerk. Both Susan and I are graduates of the Missouri Auction School, and are certified by the Certified Appraisers Guild of America.

Owner

Bob'S Gridiron Grille And The Pigskin Pub

Lincoln, Nebraska

We opened a nine thousand square foot restaurant in the Bishop Heights Shopping Center in Lincoln, Nebraska in February of 2005. Opening day we had 125 employees, and we did a tad over twenty-three thousand dollars on the first day. We closed it July 31, 2005.For the last twelve years, my wife and I have been writing a book we have titled Million Dollar Party. Everything you need to know about that venture, the dream, the planning, the work that went into opening, it will all be revealed in the book that will be available the summer of 2017. The restaurant was decorated in my lifelong collection of Nebraska Cornhusker football memorabilia, so it's a sports story as well.

Owner

R. C. Burgess

Lincoln, Nebraska

We had opened a retail store in Lincoln, Nebraska in early 1984, that was called Potter's Inn. It did not prove worthy to continue, so we changed concepts and opened a second store we called R. C. Burgess. It grew into a small local chain of four card and gift stores, which we ran successfully until the late 1990s when malls across the country saw a downturn in retailing.

Manager

Valentino'S And Tony & Luigi'S

Lincoln, Nebraska

After we opened Potter's Inn, and while we were getting ready to open R. C. Burgess, I accepted a full time managerial position with Valentino's, a regional pizzeria chain. I managed three of their full service stores, and for the nine years I worked for them, I also managed their Tony & Luigi's restaurant, the only four star restaurant in the State of Nebraska. Valentino's remains the most popular pizza in Nebraska.

Pastor

Seventh-Day Adventist Pastor

Garden City, Kansas

After graduating from Andrews University with my Masters of Divinity Degree, I was sent to a small three church district in Southwest Kansas, Garden City, Dodge City and Liberal. Loved the work and the people, but could not conform to the rigidity of a religious organization, so I resigned, due to theological differences, and have never regretted my decision. At the time, my wife Susan was enrolled in the RN program at Garden City Community College, and we could not up and leave right then. So, I went back to work for Burger King, and we opened a small pottery shop that we called Potter's Inn. When Susan graduated, she had to work for a year at the local hospital, because of a scholarship she was awarded. But after we fulfilled all our obligations in Garden City, we relocated Potter's Inn to Lincoln, Nebraska in January of 1984.

1981 - 1983 ~2 yrs

Manager

Denver, Colorado

I started working for Burger King in Denver, Colorado, shortly after my wife Susan and I moved there the first time in 1972. When I decided to enter the ministry in 1976, we move to Lincoln, Nebraska so I could attend Union College. While at Union College, I worked full time for Burger King as a night manager at two locations. Then when I went to seminary in Berrien Springs, Michigan, I managed the Burger King full time in Benton Harbor. Needless to say, I was busy. Then, when I left the ministry, I managed a Burger King in Garden City, Kansas. This company gave me a great foundation, as I entered the world of hospitality.

Salesman

Dare To Be Great - Glenn W. Turner Enterprises

Mccook, Nebraska

This was a multi-level marketing company at its finest. Unfortunately it was found out to be illegal, and eventually the owner, Glenn W. Turner, spent time in prison. Dare To Be Great was just one of Turner's many companies, under his three hundred million dollar enterprise. This company sold a motivational course that was exceptional. Even though the company never paid me commissions on the courses I sold, I still view this time as one of the most inspiring and educational of my life."Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe he can achieve." Napoleon Hill

Drummer

Professional Drummer

Mccook, Nebraska

When I was twelve, I saw The Beatles perform on Ed Sullivan in February of 1964. Immediately, I ditched my baseball and football card collection and started saving my paper route money for a drum set. By the end of summer, I turned thidrteen and bought a sparking Vox kit. Two months later I was playing every weekend with Stanley Anderson, a Nebraska Hall of Fame Country Western singer, and for two years, did I learn a few things along the way.But by the time I entered the tenth grade at McCook Senior High School, some buddies and I formed the Shades of Time, and later we changed our name to Stoned Edge. I didn't do much in High School, because we played every weekend, traveling a five state area, earning as much as $2500 for a single nights performance. My cut, upwards to two hundred dollars a night.Stoned Edge had the largest traveling psychedelic light show in the Midwest. We had a traveling crew who sat up and ran the light show during the performance, and then helped us tear down. I later played with Lonnie Cafferty, who backed up Johnny Cash in his younger days.My final band in McCook was Fire Mountain Depot. It was the calling of Glenn W. Turner that took me away from music. I still play professionally from time to time.
