My fiction has appeared in many leading literary publications, including The Pushcart Prize, North American Review, Missouri Review, StoryQuarterly and Narrative Magazine. I am the author of two collections of short stories, A Night at the Y, and Episode, which won the Sherwood Anderson Foundation Fiction Award. As well as teaching writing at the University of Colorado, I am available to give readings, make public appearances, teach writing workshops and courses, and assist in other writing-related projects. For over thirty years, I've taught a variety of courses, including fiction writing, composition, speech, and literature. I have taught for Lighthouse Writer's Workshop in Denver and at the Steamboat Springs Writing conference, and I will serve as a panelist at the Writing the Rockies Writer's Conference in Gunnison, Colorado in July 2011. As well, I serve as a Contributing Editor to The Pushcart Prize, and as a Consulting Editor for Narrative Magazine. My short stories have been used for large performance readings by professional actors at Stories on Stage in Denver, and at the Arts and Letters Live/Texas Bound show at the Dallas Museum of Art.Specialties: I specialize in writing short stories, though I also have experience in writing novels and screenplays, and in teaching a variety of writing courses. My screenplay The Way Home was a finalist in the 2010 Toronto Wildsound Film Festival.
