Rob McDuff’s private practice encompasses trials and appeals in criminal and civil cases in several states. His work has included: * Four cases he argued in the United States Supreme Court. * Acquittals in two separate federal court trials for then-Mississippi Supreme Court Justice Oliver Diaz, who was indicted for mail fraud and later for tax evasion. * An acquittal in the retrial of Sabrina Butler, who was set free after six years on Mississippi’s death row. * Successfully defended Mississippi death row inmate Willie Russell against charges of attempting to kill a prison guard on death row. * Represented Theo Shaw, one of the “Jena 6" defendants in Louisiana and helped resolve the case on favorable terms for the teenaged defendants.* Represented Albert Woodfox, one of the "Angola 3" defendants in Louisiana. and helped negotiate his release after serving longer in solitary than any other American prisoner. * The exoneration of a number of people in Mississippi and Louisiana in cases co-counseled with Innocence Project New Orleans. * Successfully defended one of a group of five North Carolina aerospace engineers indicted in federal court and sued in state court for allegedly stealing trade secrets. Ultimately, the indictment and civil suit were dismissed. * The acquittal of a Mississippi lawyer indicted in federal court for perjury and money laundering. * Victories in various civil rights and civil liberties cases, including several redistricting cases on behalf of black voters.* Significant settlements in civil cases, including suits against private prison companies for injuries to inmates. * Courtroom victories also include substantial jury verdicts in employment litigation against corporate employers, wrongful arrest litigation against casinos and police officers, and a federal court verdict for a lawyer wrongly sued for deceptive advertising.* Rob also litigates cases for the Mississippi Center for Justice.

Redistricting litigation on behalf of black voters in various states around the country. Rob's work on two cases that he co-counseled, Clark v. Roemer and Martin v. Allain, led to dramatic increases in the number of African-American judges in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Directed program that represented indigent defendants indicted in federal court, and taught criminal law and criminal procedure at the Law School.
