CareFusion was the final owner of the "Laptop Ventilator" (LTV) originally developed by Pulmonetic Systems. I was hired to help transition their ventilator from a 80386E processor to an ARM 9 based processor. Their device used a pre-emptive multi-tasking round robbin RTOS of their own development. My role was to recreate that OS for the target ARM processor, and port the rest of the code to that processor in an attempt to make as few changes as possible to provide an easy regulator path for acceptance by the FDA.
Software Engineering Contractor
Minnetronix is a contract services engineering company that also does low volume manufacturing that caters exclusively to the medical device industry. I helped develop several medical devices during my time here. They ranged in complexity from an 8-bit microcontroller that controlled a heating element to the GUI for a research device used to treat traumatic brain injury.
Software Engineering Contractor
I was part of the Air Traffic Management group. Their products are in use in most of the Air Traffic Control facilities in the US and abroad. I worked with on EARTS/MicroEARTS (Radar), and ATOP/ETOP (Oceanic Procedures).
Sr. Software Engineer
Sienna Imaging was the largest distributor of "package printers" (think 8x10, 5x7, wallet size photos) commonly used by professional photographers in the portrait (think school book pictures) and event (think weddings) industries. At this point in the phtography industry, digital cameras had not yet made their debut into the market so negative photos were still state of the art. Retouching blemishes on peoples faces in photos was traditionally done by hand by modifying the negative or the image on the photo paper. In the days before Photoshop, Sienna created "digital retouching" software using SGI computers. The software had interfaces to film scanners (multiple formats up to 6" negatives), and multiple output devices including one photo negative printer and 2 direct to photo paper devices.
Sr. Software Engineer
Pakon was a manufactuer of plastic 35mm slide mounts. At the "dawn of digital photography" they created a new product, a binder sleeve to store slides. The differentiating feature of their product was it provided a thumbnail print of the slide that was stored in the pocket of that sleeve. My role was to help create the digital scanner, and the software involved. I provided assistance with digital electronics, mechanical transport, and the software used to create the digital prints for the sleeve on an ink jet printer. When that product was successful, the scanner was also marketed for creating thumbnail prints of 35mm negatives as well. Those prints were typically created using a dye sublimation printer and provided with prints from the "1 hour" photo labs of the day.
