In April 2017 I left Lombard under a voluntary redundancy/early retirement programme.It was my privilege to have been tasked with establishing Asset Finance Sales teams for two of the UK's biggest financial institutions. In 1989 I set up Clyde General Finance (part of Clydesdale Bank/NAB) in the North of Scotland which my team and I grew from literally nothing to an £80m turnover business.In 2001 I was given the opportunity to establish an Asset Finance Sales team in the North of Scotland for Lombard (part of the RBS group) which my team and I grew from a very modest business to a £100m turn over market leading business.Since leaving Lombard I've had various opportunites to return to Asset Finance and I'd like to thank those that I met with but after careful consideration I've decided to 'call it a day' (probably!).As someone who has spent their working life in Asset Finance I believe the future of the business lies not with the clearing bank owned businesses which have largely down sized but with the newer providers that have grown from the broker market.The opportunity to do what I did and achieved does not happen to many it was a great experience and something that I do not believe will happen again (to anyone in the UK). However if anyone thinks they need help in establishing a sales team in Scotland you know where I am!
