About Robert Millar
Dr. Robert Millar has almost 40 years of consulting and applied academic experience in hydrologic design, river engineering, dam safety, mine water management and erosion and sedimentation. He has worked on projects across Canada, the US, Australia, Central and South America, Indonesia, and Turkey working in water management and infrastructure design, dam safety, pipeline hazards, flooding, sedimentation, and environmental impacts across mining, oil and gas, forestry and hydropower industries and for government authorities. Dr Millar currently sits on several Independent Tailings Review Boards (ITRBs) and has provided expert leagl opinions in a number of legal and contract dispute proceedings.From 1996 until 2011, he was a Professor of Hydrotechnical Engineering at the University of British Columbia where he taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Open Channel Hydraulics, Hydrology, River Sedimentation and Computational Modelling. During this time he supervised 22 Master’s and 6 Ph.D. students, and published over 70 journal articles, conference papers and book chapters. He continues to hold a position as Adjunct Professor at UBC, and teaches Engineering Hydrology and River Engineering to Civil, Geological and Environmental Engineering students.He is a Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) and a Registered Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) in the Canadian Province of British Columbia.
