Responsible for managing approx. £1,500,000 of server and network infrastructure assets to support a 7500-user network. Migration of 3000 Exchange and SharePoint users to Office 365, bringing about an approx. 15% reduction in both CapEx and OpEx budget costs over on-site services.Handle relationships with key suppliers (e.g. Dell, HP, and Microsoft).Writing specifications for formal equipment bids to comply with legal framework requirements.Manage long-term strategic goals for IT server infrastructure and provided advice to college directors on IT aspects of all college projects.Line manage IT Systems Engineer and technicians, planning staff development, carrying out performance reviews.Work closely with IT Director to produce the college’s long term IT framework and strategy, presenting strategic plans at board-level meetings.Implement the college’s deployment of Eduroam, a federated wireless service that allows guests from different education establishments to ‘roam’ onto associated campuses. Work with supplier to implement new Hyper-V infrastructure based on Storage Spaces, hyper converged storage, and Hyper-V replication.Helped manage the implementation of JIRA service desk at the college.

My main duties included managing the server and infrastructure requirements to support a 3000 user computer network, and deputising for the Technical Systems Manager. Supervised between four and ten other members of the IT team and acted as a technical consultant to other departments that required advice on purchasing or implementing new IT Systems.Acted as both technical lead and project manager for all server, storage and infrastructure projects within the college.Managed long-term strategic goals for IT server infrastructure and provided advice to college directors on IT aspects of all college projects.Deployed Office 365 to all staff and students as part of a project to improve staff and student access to resources on mobile devices.Manage a HP ProCurve-based switch infrastructure consisting of about 45 switches, using both command-line tools and ProCurve Manager Plus.Deployed SAN infrastructure based on Dell EqualLogic SANs for college virtualisation projects and to reduce cost of storage on file servers.Handled relationships with key suppliers (e.g. Dell, HP, and Microsoft), including writing specifications for formal equipment bids to comply with legal framework requirements.Migrated the college client PCs from Windows XP and Windows 2003 servers to Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 Server. I ran this project for the college bringing it in on time for the start of the 2012/2013 academic year and for £15,000, vs a quote of £90,000 received from a 3rd party to carry out the migration.Carried out a migration from VMware vSphere to HyperV / SCVMM, and an upgrade of Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013.

Worked as part of a team providing support for approx. 2000 users on a college network.Migrated the college network from Windows NT4 server and Exchange 5.5 to Windows 2000 & Exchange 2000.Designed the college’s active directory forest structure.Managed security and technical aspects of the college’s internet presence and liaising with key suppliers in this area, e.g. JANET.

Helped migrate the college network from Windows 95 and Netware 4 to Windows NT 4 server and Windows 98 workstations.Installed Exchange 5.5 on college network, and migrated all staff and students over from a legacy email system.Provided ‘2nd line’ support with difficult support calls and providing coaching to junior technicians on other support calls.Assisted engineers and manager with managing server and switch infrastructure.

Main duties centred on supporting staff in two offices, installing, configuring and maintaining user workstations and Windows NT 4 servers, supporting Exchange 5.5 for internal and external email and ensuring the smooth running of the company links between offices.

At Cranfield University I worked on a range of installation, configuration and maintenance tasks to support lecturers and students at the Silsoe campus.This was over a mix of platforms including Windows (95 desktop and NT 3.51/4 server), Digital VMS and various versions of Unix.
