I am working within the South Eastern HSC Trust both in clinical and managerial roles. I am doing some ward shifts to maintain clinical skills/experience with direct patient contact plus I am supporting some directorates in their work around governance. The main aspects of my current work is to do with Healthroster and Safecare across the Nursing Workforce. I am also leading on technology enabled care.

Responsible for the management/ leadership and service direction of specialist nursing i.e. continence, dermatology, diabetes, ophthalmology, Parkinson’s disease, respiratory, sexual health, tissue viability and telehealth and telecare services. My keys roles and duties revolved around service delivery; quality and governance; service planning and development; financial & resource management; people management; information management; and service user experience.Key Achievements:Reaching the Regional Telehealth targets for the Trust in 2015-16 for the first time and developing telecare services to support people to live longer independently at home.Setting up a home delivery service for insulin pump consumables.Becoming an IIP internal assessor in 2013.Meeting financial targets within my services and positive feedback from service users.I have a facilitative and motivational style always promoting the work of my staff and recognizing success – the staff within the following services have achieved recognition at National Awards: Sexual Health; Respiratory, Tissue Viability and Continence Services.Setting up Interpreting Service for UCHT and publishing an Ethnic Handbook for staff.I was the RCN Health and Safety Representative for Northern Ireland at National Level for 8 years and vice-chair of the Northern Ireland RCN Board for 2 years. At National Level, I was both vice chair and then chair of the RCN Health and Safety Representatives Committee for 4 years. In completing the RCN Political Leadership Course, I lead on the 'You're Not Alone' Campaign in Northern Ireland (2007) and was instrumental in creating another RCN publication: 'A Shift in the Right Direction' (2012) addressing health and safety issues around shift working. In 2013, I was awarded the RCN Award of Merit.

I am currently supporting Fold Telecare in an advisory professional nursing capacity with Telehealth and Long Term Conditions on a part-time basis.I also work in an advisory capacity to Connected Care Solutions.

Trustwide

My role as of Central Primary Services Manager (CPSM) was to facilitate and co-ordinate the delivery of the Clinical Social Care Governance agenda within Primary Care. The post operated alongside those of the Primary Services Managers (PSMs) to ensure that processes of risk management, quality, audit and equality were centrally co-ordinated and connected across Primary Care. The role also required service specific improvement projects to be undertaken to enhance care provision. I also had management responsibility for some of the Primary Care specialist nursing services i.e. continence, diabetes, respiratory, stoma and tissue viability.Achievements:I built up an integrated care team with various professional groups, with myself acting as a one point of contact between GPs and the Trust services.Regional presentations to demonstrate/promote the Primary Care Integrated Care model.I was appointed as the Nurse commissioning representative on the Ards Local Health and Social Care Group to influence local service provision, which I did for approximately 2-3 years.

Trustwide

This involved the placement of clients within residential and nursing home care settings, along with those requiring domiciliary care packages. This included financial management and client/service assessment and review. Achievements:I was the first Care Manager to work within an integrated care setting within the Trust rather than based or working entirely from a service specific team resulting in speaking at a number of Regional conferences on the benefits of integrated team working.

Ards Hospital

The provision of nursing care and safety of inpatients with acute mental health problems Achievements:I got some experience of the practicalities of the Northern Ireland mental health legislation and I developed a learning resource for staff within the unit within the short period that I worked on the unit.

Hawthorne House

This role involved the management of a 25 bedded PNH for people connected to the Civil Service. This included running a home that would always meet the requirements for announced and unannounced inspections by the EHSSB. The role included Staffing (nursing, domestic, catering and maintenance), Finance; Human Resources; Quality; Audit; Medicine Management; Health and Safety; Care Management Reviews Achievements:I got experience in the commissioning, opening and managing a brand new nursing home - Hawthornden House was opened by the Nl Secretary of State Sir Patrick Mayhew in 1993. Within this time, I had a small number of book reviews within the Nursing Times: Moore, R.T. (1993) Book Review in NT. April 14, Vol 89, No 15. (1994) Book Review In NT, March 16. Vol 90, No 11. I had clinical and managerial responsibilities acting up for the matron in her absence. In addition, I gained experience working alongside Care Managers and the Registration and Inspection Unit.

Newtownards And Bangor

I worked alongside the Projects Manager to integrate patients with mental health issues from the hospital setting into a supported community environment and also a befriending scheme of volunteers. I worked with the Housing Executive to obtain suitable accommodation and then prepared the accommodation within tight budget scales. I supported the care staff in developing care plans; participating in client reviews; working with the statutory agencies. Achievements:Extension of the scheme/services into Bangor. Getting clients independent and confident in managing their own lives.

West Wickham, Croydon. Kent

Working as an RMN with the National Unit for 8 mothers and their babies experiencing episodes of post-natal depression or psychosis.Achievements:Getting experience in a very specialised field of mental health practice in a National Unit.

Camberwell, London & West Wickham, Kent. Uxbridge, Middlesex (Brunel University)

Patient care of those with mental health problems within an acute inpatient setting during the combined RMN & Degree course run by the Maudsley & Bethlem Royal SHA and Brunel University. Achievements:Achieving my second professional nursing qualification and Bachelor of Science with Joint Honours Sociology/Psychology Division. (2:1) Learning my mental health practice within London with a diversity of nationalities in terms of staff and patients.During this time in London, I did some agency nursing for the British Nursing Association (Kings College Hospital, Dulwich Hospital) and the Priory Group of Hospitals to supplement university cost of living.

Ulster Hospital, Dundonald

Nursing care of inpatients within various ward settings (20 bedded wards) within the hospital: medicine; surgery; plastics; cardiology; orthopaedics and care of the elderly. Running the ward in the absence of the sister, as per shift patterns Achievements:Consolidated knowledge and skills through practice within the Ulster Hospital on a rotational basis.

Adult General Nurse TrainingAchievements:Completing the course and training without any resits with immediate employment within the hospital on completion.
