Mechanical Design EngineerCobiq Llc Jul 2018 - Oct 2020Columbia, South Carolina AreaAt cobiq LLC we provide composite design and analysis consultations and mechanical design services. Our diverse team of civil, mechanical, and aerospace engineers has experience in mechanical design, advanced composite design/manufacturing, finite element analysis, and aerospace structures. My primary role in our company is mechanical engineering, and fabrication, and am currently focused on the full mechanical design of a wind tunnel force balance system which allows for the control of the test specimen in pitch and yaw while giving force and moment information in X, Y, and Z axis. -
Lab Technical Manager Ii / Mechanical EngineerUofsc College Of Engineering And Computing May 2018 - Oct 2020Ronald E. Mcnair Center For Aerospace Innovation And ResearchMy research interests and areas of focus at the McNair Center and the Civil Engineering Structures Laboratory are on thermoplastic composite manufacturing technologies, non-destructive evaluation through acoustic emissions, automation, and the design of mechanical systems. As a member of the Multi-Functional Materials and Structures group, we work diligently to be on the cutting edge of composite manufacturing techniques such as thermoplastic composite welding, continuous carbon fiber 3D Printing, and automated fiber placement· Design experiments to meet the requirements the customer set forth in the statement of work.· Ensure that manufacturing equipment can meet customer manufacturing requirements· Spec or design new equipment to meet lab and/or customer needs.· Design mechanical and static systems to allow for the integration of new hardware into existing equipment for research and development purposes.· Fabricate fixtures for novel test configurations· Write technical reports and presentations for customer updates and conferences.· Coordinate events for demonstrations on projects with sponsors and businesses.· Conduct research and adhere to project timelines while coordinating with industry partners, students and faculty -
Engineering ResearcherUofsc College Of Engineering And Computing Jan 2016 - May 2018Ronald E. Mcnair Center For Aerospace Innovation And Research· DASH-X UAS: Mechanical Design Engineer for engineering consortium tasked with designing a UAS to meet customer specified loiter time, low flight speed, altitude, and mid-flight deployment method. Responsible for early stage CAD and mechanical design. Devised solutions to complex problems the team faced during the early stages of design. Appointed Propulsion Lead IPT and oversaw the contracted company's data processing and dissemination of information, as well and communicating with suppliers and manufacturers.- Nuclear Fuel Drying: Designed and fabricated of thermal camera mounting system to allow for easy attachment and detachment of system from the viewport of a mock nuclear reactor. Developed novel thermocouple calibration method to save time while remaining accurate. Proposed and successfully implemented thermocouple attachment process for reliable and accurate temperature monitoring in mock nuclear reactor, preventing frequent time consuming maintenance .· Underwater Stereoscopic Cave-Mapping Vessel: Primary mechanical engineer to perform mechanical design and analysis of a vessel to meet the cost and depth needs of the Computer Science and Robotics group at the University of South Carolina. Developed CAD models and drawings utilizing standard GD&T and SAE specifications for sealing, enabling the vessel to meet and exceed the desired submerged depth of 100 meters.· Thermoplastic Welding: Assembled and configured a high-power induction welding systemfor a contracted composite welding project. Designed and tested induction coils to meet the flux characteristics necessary to weld the unique geometry of the composite samples. Characterized weld data to demonstrate the effectiveness of the process. -
