Technical procedures placed an emphasis on the possibility of a faulty oil pump. After performing a detailed inspection, I made the discovery of a “missing” Axis J Gearbox Bearing as the root cause for oil pump failure which was not addressed in the Technical Orders and was quickly identified by engineering as the first anomaly of this type. Removed and replaced engine in minimal time, despite remote location, awarded unit “Superior Performer” for month of July 1999. Additionally, I was selected as an “Outstanding Performer” during the Apr 2000 Combat Employment Readiness Exercise, for my role as lead propulsion technician. Show less
