Duties• Full-time engineering support to the Experimental Aero-physics Branch at NASA Ames Research Center - Experimental testing in fluids research - Rocket design and testing, wind tunnel test design and operation, spacecraft subsystem design, acoustics research, experimental methods in fluid flow modelingAccomplishments and Related Skills• Peregrine Sounding Rocket Project: - Design of the combustion chamber and overpressure safety mechanisms, structural analysis, hardware testing, and engine testing -Mechanical design, structural and thermal analysis, pull tests, pressure vessel hydrostatic tests, engine test controller, data collection, ordnance handling training• Ares I Scale Model Acoustic Test and Orbital Antares Lift-off Acoustics Research: Design and operation of a 70-element microphone phased array to map rocket engine acoustics during test and lift-off -Mechanical design, analysis, coordination of test hardware fabrication and assembly; microphone and pressure transducer calibrations in an anechoic chamber; optical and IR video, data collection during engine tests; problem solving in the field; work at NASA MSFC and NASA WFF• Speed Agile Test at NASA Ames 40’x80’ Wind Tunnel: Designed a structural mount for a 420-lbs microphone array to withstand 300 mph winds -Mechanical design, structural, vibration and aerodynamic analyses, coordinated fabrication, assembly and crane lift-in installation in the wind tunnel, rapid prototyping, design reviews, interface requirements• SPRITE Spacecraft: Preliminary design of recovery system for a re-entry probe - Developed atmospheric entry and descent simulator (detailed atmospheric models, aerodynamic stability derivatives, and 6-DOF trajectory equations of motion, prediction of parachute opening loads) and sized the subsystem hardware
