Started work as an Camera operator (colour reproduction) apprentice at Alpine Printing Company in Sydney leaning colour separation from the ground up using, gallery camera's, silver masking, tri mask, the AMB control system for gradation and grey balance targets from Kodak. I gained extensive experience with Crosfield Electronic 3000 and 460 scanners. In 1973 joined Crosfield Electronics at their Holloway Road office in North London as an installation photographer and installed scanners for their re-sellers throughout the world. I worked in their R&D department with the team who developed the transition from analog colour to digital colour with the Magnascan 550 and 646 colour scanners and digital pagemaker up systems. I returned to Australia and joined Delairco Industries in a technical and sales role.Sandstone SoftwareIn late 1995 started to foundation work and concept work on proofing digital imposed print files from CTP rips with Serendipity Software. In 1996 I started Sandstone Software as the international software distribution arm of Serendipity Software. 7 Channel Characterisation CGATS Data Sets:During the extensive COVID19 lock-down period in Melbourne, I sat down and re-designed the ways (ECG) "expand colour gamut" (7) channel "CYMK + Orange, Green, Violet and Red table (characterisation data) was constructed. The principal behind the reconstruction was to limit the build up of (TAC) total ink coverage 7 channels in area's of the gamut that would not over ink. This would allow the full range of the additional Orange, Green and Violet inks to deliver a large and more visible colour space. During this time Serendipity enhanced their Ncolour engine that would then take advantage of the new 7 & 8 channel profiles and deliver contone and dot proofs at a new high level.Bump Plate Sepoarations:During early June of 2023 I developed the workflow concept of creating 4 (Orange, Green, Violet & Red) separations direct from different RGB colour spaces using the updated tiff driver in the Serendipity Blackmagic V9.0 software. The CMYK separations are separated to industry standard (ISO Coasted Fogra-39 or GRACoL) standards. Each of the additional Orange, Green Violet and Red separations is applied with a specific tint and HUE Angle that would put back pure colour and increase the colour volume that is so often lost during the RGB to CMYK conversion process. The additional 4 separations known as "bump plates" are then merged back together with the Serendipity colour engine to form a final PDF, JPEP or Tiff 6.0 image for use in any CMYK workflow.
