I am a public health nurse \ health visitor of 42 years experience of practice, education and professional leadership before retirement (although 'the fire still burns'!). I am a doctor of education with over 20 years experience of developing innovative ways to improve professional practice through higher education and professional development in the workplace. As an academic manager I was responsible for ensuring the integrity and quality of practice \ work-based learning through partnership working. I oversaw sustained excellence in teaching delivery within my academic institution. Subsequently I renewed my focus on child and family community public health and the health visiting profession. As a public health practitioner, educator and volunteer I am committed to work with others to overcome barriers of disadvantage and inequality within communities and public services. Working with the Institute of Health Visiting I led and contributed to projects and consultancy linked to workforce development, curriculum development, quality assurance and leadership development. I produced policy briefings for practitioners and led on national policy consultations. I delivered leadership development programmes and in 2017 undertook a Florence Nightingale Foundation Travel Scholarship visit to Cape Town, S Africa, focussed on Clinical Leadership for the First 1000 Days (of life).From August 2022 I retired from my role leading on professional education for the iHV for a <10hrs per week supporting my successor and the team to have less time on the lap top and more time on the mountain tops - enjoying the places I love with the people I love. I will still be cheering on health visitors and health visiting and especially Team iHV, my wonderful colleagues.
