About Robert Nettleton

I am seeking a Customs Advisor/Consultant or security position.I have been with the US Govt since 1978, 32 yrs with US Coast Guard as an engineer. I was active duty for 9 years and a reservist for the rest. I did tours at 2 search & rescue stations, a high endurance cutter and an ice breaker. In addition to be an engineer I had several collateral duties, was an EMT, I did drug interdiction, marine law enforcement, & intelligence collection. As a reservist I did a tours at a Marine Response Team, two search & rescue stations, a Port Security Unit (PSU), as a marine engineer. I was the Reserve Officer in Charge at one of the small boat stations. I was qualified with 50 cal, M60, M16, riot shotgun, 9mm & 45 handguns. I also was trained in Maritime Oil Pollution Response and to operate heavy equipment and various trucks. After the PSU I was the USCG rep for the RCMP IBET training program in Ottawa. I conducted training for various law enforcement agencies in the US and Canada.In 1988 I was hired by US Customs in Detroit MI. as an inspector. I have been assigned to Detroit MI., Port Huron, MI., Montreal, PQ., Sandusky OH, Vancouver, BC. Sault Ste Marie, MI & Calgary AB. While assigned to Soo, MI I did an 11 month TDY in AZ. The TDY was Alliance to Combat Transnational Terrorism (ACTT) I was assigned to the Special Rapid Response Team (SRRT) we were a team that deployed to any port in AZ on demand to conduct special enforcement actions, we also did personal protection/security details for dignitaries. I was the team armor responsible for team firearms, M4's, riot shotguns & ammo.I am a certified trainer & firearms instructor. I have taught intel collection, anti-terrorism, personal protection, health & safety, report writing, vehicle inspection, use of force, intermediate weapons, pressure points & pain compliance.

    As a USCG Machinery Technician (MK) I was assigned to two search and rescue stations, a high endurance cutter, an icebreaker, Port Security Unit 309, Marine Safety Office Cleveland, Marine Response Unit Sector Sault Ste Marie and an independent assignment with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Ottawa ONT.On board ship I was responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of a the cutter's propulsion, auxiliary equipment and outside equipment, internal combustion engines (gasoline, diesel, gas turbines), environmental support systems (heating, ventilation, air conditioning), hydraulics, generator sets, and areas of hazardous material recovery and control. At the small boat stations I was responsible for the engineering maintenance and operation of any small boats assigned to their command. I also was the engineering supply officer, maintaining the supplies and budget of the engineering department.At the Marine Safety Office and Marine Response Unit, I was trained in oil pollution response and clean up.As a member of Port Security Unit 309 I was assigned to the engineering department. Responsible for the maintenance and operation of the special response Raider boats. As a collateral duty I was a member of the boat crew, this required me to be qualified with several weapons. I was also required to operate various pieces of heavy equip and trucks. I have been assigned in supervisory positions as a shop supervisor at shore installations. I have been an Engineer Petty Officer and was responsible for the overall management of the unit engineering department including its personnel. Maintaining the .budget, ordering supplies and tools for the engineering departmentI was also assigned an independent assignment as the USCG representative to the RCMP IBET training team. I was the ONLY IBET Training Officer the USCG had for several years. IBET is an intelligence sharing team that deals with international and border law between the US and Canada.
