Structural and functional proteomics of bacterial photosynthetic membrane development – integration of proteomics with developmental structural changes as viewed at molecular resolution by atomic force microscopy and with assessments of developing functional activities and alterations in membrane dynamics using a variety of informative and rapid spectroscopic probes.2. Development of biohybrid electrophotochemical cells using bacterial photosynthetic membranes in the photoconversion of abundant near-IR radiation to useful currents. Bacterial photosynthetic membranes are functionally interfaced to gold conducting supports for the capture and conversion of solar energy. Modified dye-sensitized solar cells are also constructed in which the conventional dyes are replaced by bacterial photosynthetic membranes, resulting in the photoconversion of near-IR radiation.
