I am part of a senior design team that is working to develop an engineered strain of nitrifying bacteria that can perform the entire nitrification process. This will speed up the conversion of ammonia into nitrates. Our engineered bacteria would have applications in aquaponics, aquaculture, and waste water treatment. Skills developed throughout this project include: cloning, PCR, scale-up design, independent research, and safety analysis.

Greater Milwaukee Area

I worked in the lab of Dr. Shama Mirza for two summers and one school year. Throughout my internships, I worked to identify and verify potential biomarkers for Glioblastoma Multiforme, an aggressive brain tumor. This research involved handling patient tumor and blood samples, preparing samples for mass spectrometry, analyzing mass spectrometry data, performing protein quantification assays, and western blotting.
