I was invited by the Founder, Seth Andrew, to join him on a journey which he hoped would create a model charter school in the Harlem community. It was a journey that we, at Boys and Girls Harbor had dreamed about for many years prior to the passage of the New York State Charter School law, but was now a reality - private management of public schools. Seth's vision was very ambitious but realistic based on the needs of the Harlem community.The first year was tumulutous and I was asked/volunteered to assist in the management of the organization. As Executive Director for a year, I assisted in providing stability and forward thinking that enabled the organization to stay true its underlying principles and goals.Democracy Prep has become one of the highest performing middle schools/schools in New York City. Harlem Hospital Department of Dentistry has three training programs; General Dentistry, Oral Surgery and Pediatric Dentistry. As an Attending Dentist, I am involved in the instruction and supervision of the General and Pediatric residents as well as providing direct dental care to the most difficult children and adolescents.

Boys and Girls Harbor is an educational organization with a more than 70 year history of providing services to more than 5,000 young people from primarily Northern Manhattan. The Harbor provides 6 types of services; camping ( summer and winter weeks/weekends, pre and after school education, elementary and middle school education ( Harbor Charter School), performing arts ( classes in dance, theater and all of the musical instraments), behavioral health, and college preparation services.My involvement at the Harbor began in 1967 and I have been involved in:1. the development/funding of most of the government funded programs at the Harbor2. the management of the Harbor facility, the East Harlem Arts and Education Local Development corp which manages the Heckscher Building at 1 East 104th Street,3. Daily management of the Harbor programs serving adolescent,4, Developing annual funding streams for the Harbor totalling 10M annually for more thatn 20 years,5. Managing a private fundraining program that raised 3 million dollars annually6. Managing 2 annual fundraising events, the Salute and Fireworks that raised 60% of our annual private fundraising revenues.
