Process Engineer
I currently work as a process engineer with Sherritt Technologies. My projects have focused on hydrometallurgical applications in addition to providing engineering support to a bitumen upgrading concept. In my role, I have been responsible for following:- Performing process simulations using METSIM or UniSim- Developing process flowsheets and P&IDs- Preparing mass and energy balances for conceptual processes- Performing equipment sizing based on mass and energy balance results- Developing operating expense (OPEX) calculations- Reviewing capital expense (CAPEX) reports- Sizing a pressure relief valve for a laboratory system and corresponding with the valve vendor- Acting as the lead process engineer during a 4 day HAZOP and implemented recommendations from the session- Facilitating HAZOP sessions
Process Engineer
I worked as an independent contractor providing process engineering consulting and HAZOP facilitation services.
Process Engineer
I worked as a lead process engineer at WorleyParsons. I was a member of the Syncrude Improve alliance. My role included interacting with other discipline leads to deliver projects on time and on budget. Projects I was process engineering lead on involved upstream oil and gas processes. I was directly responsible for pump hydraulic validation, pressure safety valve (PSV) sizing, participating in risk assessments, and developing process drawings. As a lead engineer, I was responsible for preparing cost estimates and managing project budgets.
Process Engineer
I worked as a Process Engineer at Stantec in Edmonton. Our group focused on midstream pipeline applications. My tasks included modelling steady-state systems using AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow and HYSYS, facilitating Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) including HAZOPs, preparing notice of design changes (NDCs) on a large multi-discipline project, and developing, marking-up and checking engineering drawings (PFDs and P&IDs). I gained experience performing process lead engineer activities on a multidiscipline projects. In addition, I authored several technical reports for client review and approval in addition to significantly participating in my department's practice development activities. As a HAZOP facilitator, I have gained exposure to wastewater projects in addition to facilitating risk assessment session for oil and gas clients. In 2015, I was involved in a project which required thirty site visits to client oil terminals in Alberta and Saskatchewan. During the project, I gained experience pulling safe work permits, performing hazard ideas, and completions of field level hazard assessments before performing work. I completed training on various types of PHA techniques (What-if, HAZOP, and LOPA). I have also completed Enbridge PHA facilitation training which includes Stature software and have received formal training in Stoner Pipeline Simulator (SPS) software.
Research Assistant
I performed extensive literature reviews and conduct bench-scale experiments. This job involved collaboration with Thibault & Associates Inc., an engineering consulting firm in Fredericton, NB, and I was required to participate in meetings and deliver reports. Additionally, I also analyzed test solutions using an ICP-OES.
University Instructor (Contract)
I have taught several undergraduate courses in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of New Brunswick. The following is a list of courses and their descriptions:Process Dynamics and Control - I taught this course in Fall semester of 2012 and am teaching it again in the Fall of 2013. This course involves introducing students to the fundamentals of process control. Topics include control valve selection and sizing, PID control, and classical controller tuning methods.Corrosion Engineering - I have provided guest lectures in this course that is taken by both undergraduate and graduate students. Topics I have lectured on include stress-corrosion cracking (abbreviated as SCC and is also known as environmentally-assisted corrosion), pitting, crevice corrosion, flow-accelerated corrosion (FAC), and Pourbaix (potential vs. pH) diagrams.Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics - Topics include VLE calculations, chemical reaction equilibria, real gas behaviour, and departures from ideality.Chemical Engineering Laboratory I - This is the first laboratory course the undergraduate students take in chemical engineering. The first section of the course dealt with safety and a survey of historical engineering accidents. This was followed by proper report writing and an introduction to using Microsoft Word and Excel. The second section involved a thermodynamic efficiency test of the UNB Central Heating Plant. The students performed actual engineering measurements on-site and presented their findings. The final section involved experiments on topics in fluid mechanics, specifically pumps, head loss, and flowmeters.
University Instructor (Contract)
Chemical Engineering Laboratory IV - I taught this course over two academic years. This course consisted of four experiments: distillation, gas absorption, chemical reactors, and process control. My responsibilities included organizing the course and setting a schedule, report marking, and hiring and training teaching assistants.
