As a member of the Insight & Evidence team at Transport Focus, my role involves conducting research among transport users. My primary role is to manage the Your Bus Journey survey, which gathers the views of over 35,000 bus passengers across the year. This is a considerable project management task, involving stakeholders across the bus industry, as well as managing the relationship with our research agency - I'd liken it to a multi-country study!I've also presented the findings from our research to the major bus groups, local transport authorities and wider industry groups.Alongside this, I am currently working on a survey of lorry driver experiences at roadside facilities on the motorways and major 'A' roads in England. I helped to develop and now oversee the organisation's Data hub (provided by a third party), an open access portal containing the results from all of our major transport user surveys.

Took time to travel (Italy, SE Asia, Stockholm), meet friends and family, devote time to activities at home (including local volunteering, property renovation and gardening) and reflect on the next step in my career.

I joined the Employee Research division of ORC International in October 2011. My main focus was working with private sector clients, managing their employee engagement studies, including some of the largest surveys in the UK and Europe.While the role was primarily a Project Manager one, I was also involved in pitching for new and existing business and presenting survey results and implications to senior management.

Social Research DivisionI joined this division of TNS in 1996 as an SRE and progressed to my final position. During this time I worked on a variety of employee research and general employment studies, large scale, complex social and commercial research projects (including a consumer panel), as well as other ad hoc quant surveys.

Consumer Research Division (known as RSGB Product Plus at the time)My first role when joining TNS, this involved working on ad-hoc quant research projects, including advertising trackers, product/concept tests and large scale audit projects (audit of display materials in thousands of retail branches).

This was my first role after leaving university. It gave me a good grounding in the practicalities of the research process, mainly on the Quantitative side, but with some exposure to Qualitative too.Research projects included concept and product testing (including hall tests) and a financial services segmentation study.

This was a part time role while I was at school and university. I worked on Thursday evenings and Saturdays during term time and did additional shifts during the holidays.I worked in the busy food section, controlling stocks and serving customers. I was promoted to Till Controller, which meant that I was responsible for the smooth running of the tills, organising staff breaks and roles, dealing with customer queries and complaints and tallying up sales figures.

This was my first exposure to the world of work and to dealing with customers. It was a part-time temporary role over the busy Christmas period, while I was at school. My responsibilities primarily involved taking customer orders on an electronic ordering system (with exposure to the principles of 'upselling / +1 selling') and picking stock from the store area to meet customer orders.
