The role of Strategic Projects Manager covers the day to day management of over 200+ depots and distributers of Coregas range of products. The project management function is very diverse and covers everything from the build of a new Coregas branch in Mackay to working closely with Coregas major accounts to ensure that our service offer is delivering business benefits. I work closely with major account like Newcrest Mining, BMA and Pacific Aluminium.I am responsible for providing gases industry advice and support to the team and managing change at the customer site level. Bunning's is the most successful hardware chain in Australia and Coregas are now playing an important part in helping them to grow their product range and securing the bulk of the Tradie & Home Handyman market spend. Coregas have now launched a "Trade N Go Gas" offer through Bunning's chain of stores "never pay rent again" offer. This responsibility has been added to the role and is proving to be very successful.

Lae - Papua New Guinea

An exciting and challenging role with the BOC PNG business and after the 5 years previously spent in PNG I knew what to expect. This was a more senior management role and included direct responsibility for all business functions eg Finance, Sales Management, Logistics, HR, IT, SHEQ, Production across five countries. The Pacific Islands businesses are diverse and challenging but very rewarding. The business went through several changes to our supply chain and shutting down production plants and importing liquid from Australia and maintaining a filling facility. This was also replicated in the Fiji business with the great support from some very talented engineers. In the nine years I spent in Lae PNG we worked closely with the Australian BOC business to ensure that we conformed to all policies, procedures and standards. Resources from H/O would travel to PNG on a regular basis and implement change and audit the facility. This role also required me to travel extensively throughout Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands & Tonga and served on the Board of Directors for the five countries. One of the highlights was working with some fantastic Pacific Islands people most of whom were very committed to their jobs and very conscientious. What a fantastic experience and a great career development opportunity offered by BOC, I have a lot to thank them for and many GREAT memories of working with some great people.

North Ryde

Managing the Retail Equipment Supply Chain for the BOC business across Australia & New Zealand. Establish Distribution warehouse at Smithfield and other DDC locations across Australia. The supply chain serviced more than 85 Gas & Gear Centres in Aust/NZ and was responsible for all aspects of supply chain management. The G&G network offered an extensive range of safety, welding and trade tool products and serviced a wide range of customers. This also role also involved Woking closely with key suppliers for the welding and safety products and maintain stock levels, pricing and delivery offer.

Boc Safety Seven Hills

This was a new role for BOC and there was a growth agenda for the safety products market. I worked with a team of people that established a NEW Safety products business for the BOC I&SP function. Under this strategy BOC purchased several small but successful safety products businesses and part of our role was to integrate them into the bigger BOC equipment product business. This also meant establishing a safety products warehouse at Seven Hills and setting up new terms and conditions with suppliers. I spend considerable time travelling to China, Taiwan and Indonesia to establish the product range and supplier arrangements. the visits including factory tours and A+A in Germany with Uvex as the host. Once the BOC Australia channel had been established I was then asked to assist BOC Africa (AFROX) to set up a safety product business. This was an exciting role and broadened my contacts in the safety and welding industry.

Chatswood

This was the first SAP implementation project for the Linde Group globally. Australia led the way in scoping and implementing this software as a pilot for the rest of the group. The team was led by Peter Dew and a team of hard working IT and business people who worked 7 days a week for more than a year to meet the timelines. The SAP project scope was for Australia and New Zealand BOC businesses. I joined the team from a role in Papua New Guinea and represented the business in what was described as the equipment retail supply chain. At the end of the project I moved into a role as the SAP Coach the Coach and rolled out training courses across Aust & NZ. This was an exciting role and very challenging but very rewarding.

Lae Papua New Guinea

PNG Land of the Unexpected, never a truer word spoken. This was an exciting new role with the CIG soon to become BOC in PNG to manage the commercial performance of the business together with the Logistics functions, transport & Gas Agents. This was a very different role to anything I had undertaken with CIG/BOC. The PNG business was growing and expanding and Impacted directly by mining and gas development in the region. The working and living condition in PNG were a challenge and the expatriate network is critical for a support network with what was a confronting environment. I had to work with a very different culture but enjoyed the challenge and implement change to the business processes and put some discipline into the team to deliver our offer and look for cost cutting/efficiencies. Worked with a great bunch of guys who have remained friends some 20 years later.
