Robert is an English solicitor and qualified Canadian lawyer. Robert's practice covers the protection and enforcement of the full range of intellectual property rights, covering patents, trade marks, designs, copyright, and confidential information. He has acted for clients in the IPEC, the English High Court, the English Court of Appeal, the UK Supreme Court, in contentious proceedings at the EUIPO, and in arbitral proceedings in relation to domain name registrations. Robert's non-contentious work includes drafting and advising on a range of commercial agreements including licenses, assignments, manufacturing agreements, and technology development agreements. In his regulatory practice, Robert advises on compliance matters across data protection and privacy, online safety, and the use of AI. He has expreince of establishing data protection compliance programs, drafting and advising on privacy and cookie policies, data processing, and data transfer agreements for a wide range of clients with particular regard to international data transfer issues. In contentious matters, Robert has acted for clients in respect of regulatory investigations, data breaches, law enforcement data requests, FOIA requests and DSARs. Robert holds a CIPP/E certification from the IAPP. Robert has a particular interest in emerging issues at the intersection of law and technology, having written and presented on topics including Artificial Intelligence, 3D printing, injunctive relief against Internet intermediaries, and the enforcement of intellectual property rights in the social media sphere. Robert holds degrees in common law and civil law from the University of Ottawa, and an LLM in Media, Communications and Technology law from the London School of Economics, where he has since returned as a guest lecturer on the Cyberlaw master's programme. Robert is fully bilingual and practices both in English and in French.
