8 years of military service gave me the foundation and will to improve myself, and a sense of service for others. Carpentry/ construction has developed the problem solving and practical knowledge skills necessary in not only the trades but every day life. College has given me the critical thinking and reasoning necessary for higher level thinking. Teaching high school English toughened me up every bit as much as the Marines. Standing in front of the most critical individuals on the planet (teenagers) for 6-8 hrs day changes you. Patience, interpersonal communication, and the skills acquired over the years at these previous jobs prepared me for my current position as building official/inspector/code enforcement officer.
