As a small Building Company Dobson’s offered a wide variety of practical challenges associated with all aspects of new builds and renovation construction work whilst working alone or as part of a small team. This includes; Foundations, cavity and retaining walls, basement construction, structural steelwork, drainage and setting out. I developed excellent communication skills in my role as it required close co-ordination with colleagues, external contractors and clients.Development of leadership abilities was essential as I was placed in a site foreman role on contracts which involved; organising work for colleagues daily, filling in paperwork, organising material deliveries, monitoring progress against a programme of works, reading working drawings, day to day problem solving, overseeing Health and Safety on site and completing method statements and risk assessments.My planning and organising skills are well honed as I was often given a number of tasks to complete in tight deadlines. I had to prioritise the order in which to complete tasks, organise resources and liaise with clients to ensure the tasks were completed in the given timescale.
