Prime OEM and customer interface for Umicore Rechargeable Battery Materials in North America.

Lead XGS’s efforts to build markets for its graphene and graphene-related components in the energy storage (batteries and capacitors), energy conversion (fuel cells, solar) markets and related application areas.

- Responsible for Ovonic Fuel Cell (OFC) profit/ loss including management of eleven scientists, engineers and technicians.- Responsible for the development and execution of fuel cell product development plans that support OFC’s overall business plan objectives. - Responsibilities include the engineering and development of fuel cell stacks with improved power and life that are manufacturable in design and can be scaled up to volume production.- Led development program that resulted in a novel, new stack design that increased specific power by more than 150%.- Instituted high volume manufacturing activities including electrode overmolding and cell laser welding.- Led two $1MM US Army Contracts to demonstrate 1.5 kW and 5 kW stacks with high specific power without precious metal operating at ambient temperature.- Successfully developed and implemented stack subcomponent development tools and protocols.

- Responsible for coordination of fuel cell product development, promotion and commercialization activities and spokesman for Umicore Fuel Cells in North America. Developed targeted North American customer programs focused on accelerated learning.- Led multiple customer qualification activities with major fuel cell system companies.- Implemented technical collaboration two subcomponent partners seeking new technical solutions to meeting customer requirements.- Developed and implemented advertising strategy for North America that used press advertising, conferences and targeted mailings.- Instituted Business Unit database providing current competitor intelligence and market developments.- Active participant in US Fuel Cell Council and SAE Fuel Cell Codes & Standards committee.

- Responsible for identification of new technology business opportunities and funding sources, candidate partners, team development, securing funding through proposal and grant applications, and supporting program execution. - Instrumental in the development of nearly $40 million in new business. - Developed several multi million dollar, multi company technology partnerships including * $3 MM U.S. DOE with Catalytica Inc. * $2.3 MM US Army with Teledyne * $20 MM US Navy with Ballard Power Systems * $1 MM State of California with Catalytica Inc. * $3.6 MM U.S. DOE program with Air Products- Initiated and managed $500K corporate strategic program in Compact Fuel Reforming. - Responsible to senior management for achieving product development technical and business objectives within cost and schedule constraints. - Established extensive network for fuel processor research at national labs, private industry and universities .

- Managed four-year, $9 MM Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Generator development and demonstration program funded by DARPA and US Army Research Office. Program involved participation by five different companies working in the areas of fuel processing, fuel cell development and generator packaging and design. - Responsibilities included directing, tracking and reporting to program sponsors the program technical and financial progress.

- Initiated and managed $1.2 MM startup Section of seven engineers (Chemical, Mechanical) responsible for the technical and economic evaluation and development of advanced power systems including fuel cells, gas turbines, and coal gasification using state-of-the-art steady state and transient process simulation software (ASPEN, Hysim, Gate Cycle, etc.). - Responsible for resource management, capital planning, business development, quality assurance and employee performance review. - Participated as thermal-hydraulics expert on Corporate Design Review Panel for DOE-funded Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) Program.
