After high school, I did not have my heart set on a specific career, so I chose to study economics. Knowledge about how the world works and what makes it go round is beneficial in any walk of life. Working as a financial auditor at PwC gave me a fantastic opportunity to experience the inner workings of a variety of businesses, as well as a thorough understanding of and appreciation for financial accounting and the related risks. To dive deeper, I had to settle on a single organisation, which happened to be a Ministry. There I was able to utilise the skills I had acquired to optimise the budgeting process while getting acquainted with the public sector. What I learned about myself, however, is that my passion for efficiency and adaptability makes me feel more at home in the private sector, so the next step was into banking.I have thoroughly enjoyed the past 5 years building automated controls solutions, which reduce the amount of manual work, thereby saving time and effort while simultaneously lowering the risk of errors. Process automation relies on programming and has made me fluent in SQL and VBA. While perhaps not exactly languages of love, these are still two that I love to "speak" and like with actual languages, the more of them you speak, the easier it is to pick up new ones on the go. Sharing is caring and I have been delighted to offer Excel courses to my colleagues.I have also been very fortunate to have the chance to lead a small team for the past 1.5 years, attending management trainings and gaining a profound appreciation for leadership. According to the saying, money makes the world go round, but really it is people who do. The Gallup StengthsFinder assessment demonstrated my natural aptitude for leading and it is what I feel happiest doing. After 10 years in the finance sector, I have still not found that one job I want to do for the rest of my life, but I have certainly honed in on it. I love to challenge conventional ways of doing things, to hunt down inefficiencies and automate processes, to write code and make my computer do my work for me, and to inspire others to do the same. What takes the sparkle out of my eye is doing things that I know do not make a benefit, such as writing documents I know no one will ever read, or being stuck with an old way of doing things because "this is how we have always done it".
