Senior Transportation Supervisor
Plans, directs and monitors the activities of a Service Supervision section of the Transportation Department to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the District’s revenue and non-revenue transit vehicles; and supervises a large staff of Transportation Supervisors. Monitors the performance of Transportation Supervisors by reviewing daily reports, monitoring recorded radio communications, meeting with staff, and accompanying staff on work assignments. Reviews Transportation Supervisor and Central Dispatcher daily reports of road operation activity for legibility, accuracy, and completeness, and to keep up-to-date on events that effect the operations of the Transportation Department. Meets with staff on an ongoing basis to discuss operational issues; and provide updated information on District policies, procedures, and relevant legislation affecting operations. Trains Transportation Supervisors and Central Dispatchers on District policies and procedures, and on all relevant equipment and technology, including, but not limited to Orbital CAD/AVL and NextBus. Investigates complaints from the public and/or District personnel, and takes appropriate action to resolve problems, including re-instructing staff and issuing discipline. Makes recommendations to management personnel regarding operational or procedural changes. Meets with outside agencies and organizations, including county and city governments, the Red Cross, school districts, and other transit properties; to discuss special events and the coordination of emergency preparedness. Meets with city and county government officials to discuss route changes, bus stop and shelter locationsfor fact finding purposes, and to provide recommendations for problem resolution. Investigates major accidents and incidents, and makes determinations regarding causation, and reasonable-suspicion drug and alcohol testing.
Transportation Communications And Technology Supervisor
Under the direction of the Manager of Transportation Communications & Technology, the Transportation Communications & Technology Supervisor is responsible for supporting the MTS Bus management team’s ongoing efforts to enhance safety, service quality and system efficiency by maximizing the capabilities of the latest transportation technology. Provides shift coverage of communications supervisors and street supervisors to provide personal time off, vacation and sick coverage, and supervisor cross training (50% time). Actively works with radio room staff and the full capabilities of the RTMS to improve overall system efficiency and on-time performance. With the assistance of the Manager of Transportation Communications & Technology, sets up, reviews and corrects Automatic Vehicle Announcement technology. Reviews, tracks and opens repair tickets for RTMS-related hardware issues system-wide to ensure fast turn around and to minimize system downtime. Runs regular reports for the Manager of Transportation Communications & Technology to monitor overall radio room supervisor performance and specific program implementation. Trained in HASTUS payroll, closes schedules, and is back-up for weekly payroll, as needed. Coordinates required driver activities with dispatchers, such as retraining, mandatory meetings, VTT scheduling, etc. Assists in creating and tracking the supervisory calendar, including assigning relief supervisors to shifts that are open. Manages safety messaging TV systems in the driver crew rooms to ensure consistent operation and designs/loads specific content provided by the Safety Manager.
Operations / Communications Supervisor
Under the direction of the Transportation Division Manager, the Operations/Communications Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Dispatch Office and Communications Center, as well as properly maintaining radio communication and providing verbal direction to Bus Operators. Ensures that the radio and window dispatch areas operate in a professional manner.Assigns all duties in a timely and cost-effective manner.Accurately records all entries in the HASTUS dispatch system and accurately records any timecard changes, such as delays, training, extras, etc.Monitors and takes appropriate action to enhance on-time performance.Monitors the daily performance of Bus Operators and documents performance issues.Monitors, tracks and records Bus Operator attendance and miss-outs. Ensures that all Bus Operators are in full compliance with the uniform policy.Responds to all Bus Operator requests for assistance regarding directions, accidents, road calls, etc.Receives written miscellaneous documents and incident/accident reports from Bus Operators.Provides pertinent information to appropriate departments in a timely manner.Communicates with Police Departments and the California Highway Patrol as needed.Provides counseling and takes appropriate action to improve the daily performance of Bus Operators.Handles the first step of disciplinary action.Keeps bus and schedule records up-to-date.Files and sorts in-house bulletins and correspondence from outside agencies.Assists other Supervisors on disseminating information with respect to detour situations.Performs other duties as assigned.

Assures efficient use of MTS resources with the use of automated scheduling software. Creates, updates, and maintains scheduling data in Giro’s Hastus scheduling software. This includes the development and maintenance of: running times, trip notes, deadhead links, minimum layover times, timepoints, and destination sign codes.Prepares and maintains standard bidding and operation documents, including the headway book, duty book, driver paddles and route directions.Prepares and maintains pull routing to / from the garages and terminals.Analyzes service using Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL) data and other gathered information, such as driver and customer comments. Uses this information to set appropriate running times, write schedules, and block efficiently.Analyzes layover times and interlining strategies.Evaluates system trip route connectivity & makes appropriate trip connection modifications and recommends changes when appropriate.Assists in evaluating route and service changes by producing draft schedules.Creates schedule exports for public timetable production.Performs other duties as assigned.
