In Fall of 2014 I moved to Lafayette to attend Purdue University. I accepted a position at Purdue Dining working in a food service location in the Recreation & Wellness building. In my position I was expected to observe safe food handling guidelines; take and complete customer orders with efficiency; keep a clean workspace; wash, sanitize, and store food prep and serving utensils and equipment.

My duties included opening and closing procedures, completing transactions, checking in orders, and addressing customer questions or concerns. When working alone it was important to be self-directed in order to fulfill my responsibilities. When appropriate I assisted sales associates with customer inquiries and complaints. Additionally, I packaged and delivered product between our two locations and operated the store’s forklift when necessary.

I was offered a position at WBU due to my knowledge of backyard habitat cultivation, bird and wildlife feeding, and bird watching. In my position I provided our store’s clientele with accurate and up-to-date information to assist them in creating their own backyard wildlife habitat. In my time as a sales associate I was responsible for several tasks. This included stocking, facing product, packaging seed, checking in incoming orders, point-of-sale operations, cleaning retail space and storerooms, cash handling, and most importantly, providing customers with the outstanding service that they came to expect when visiting our stores.
