About Robert Ritz

I’m an economist with expertise in the energy transition, carbon markets, and competitive strategy and 17 years’ experience across academic research and management consulting.I’ve taught at both Cambridge and Oxford and my research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals and quoted by the Financial Times and The Economist. I joined Vivid Economics as its first principal in 2007, helping grow the business to ~150 people until its acquisition by McKinsey Sustainability in 2021. I advise governments and energy companies with a focus on carbon pricing and corporate & regulatory strategy, and have built world-leading modelling assets on the competitive & financial impacts of the net zero transition for McKinsey, Vivid Economics and Planetrics. I’ve also served on a number of advisory boards including the inaugural academic panels at Ofgem (Britain’s electricity & gas regulator) and at the Competition & Markets Authority (UK antitrust body). My research, talks, op-eds and policy briefs are available at: https://www.robertritz.org
