I conducted research under Dr. Yan with a graduate student, synthesizing a pyridine methyl derivative to form a supramolecule. This complex supramolecule is formed through the self assembly of small molecules via various non-covalent interactions such as hydrogen bonds, van der Waals forces, and ionic bonds. The interest in supramolecule research is because they can be used to transport and contain sensitive and volatile chemicals. The process contained application of wet and dry chemistry, as well as the use of pressurized gas, silica gel column and TLC, spectroscopy and rotary vaporizer. The use of the different equipment pertains to different steps at purifying or creating the desired product. Show less
