What I love about my job is that my client views me as a "Wartime Consigliere." Over a 29+ year career at New York Life I have had a diverse set of experiences with ever increasing levels of responsibility, that has allowed me to achieve this status. I am proud to lead a talented team of attorneys focused on individual and group life and disability insurance, structured annuities, our Mexican insurance subsidiary, our group membership association business, as well as our ERISA counsel and our state examinations team and legal operations team. Initially I conducted agent sales practice investigations. After one year I was promoted to a senior litigation position, managing high exposure litigations nationwide. In that role, over the course of 8 years, I first or second chaired ten arbitrations, two jury trials and a bench trial. I was then promoted to the role of primary lawyer for New York Life’s retail Broker/Dealer and Registered Investment Advisor. I spent five years in that position, and was promoted to Head of Litigation. I was subsequently asked by the Executive Vice President who heads the Agency Department to serve as his senior legal counsel as part of OGC’s client interfacing model and to play that same role for his Chief Operating Officer, who was also the Chairman of NYLIFE Securities LLC. I have also been an Adjunct Professor of Insurance Law for more than 25 years. For the last 15 years I have primarily taught at St. John's University School of Law. I have been honored with the Dean's teaching award three times. My GC previously leveraged my skills by having me lead the Office of General Counsel's Knowledge Transfer & Development Program. Transferable Skills: Strong leadership, management, presentation, writing and legal skills. Focus is on the strategic big picture, which includes the need to mentor the next generation of leaders. While willing to make tough decisions and speak my mind, remain committed to building strong face to face relationships.
