Robert Roy has more than 32 years of experience in North American real estate investment, serving Canadian institutions and a major Canadian REIT.Robert began his career with Roycom in 1982 in Western Canada, with primary responsibility for management, leasing and acquisitions. During his tenure, Roycom’s Western operation grew to include offices in Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Winnipeg.In 1991, Robert became Roycom’s Executive Vice President, Investments based in the firm’s head office in Halifax. He led an investment team that built portfolios across Canadian markets and the southeastern US. The investments included core and value-added retail, industrial and office properties, as well as apartments.In 1996, Roycom sponsored the IPO of Summit REIT, and externally managed it until 1999. Summit became well known as Canada’s only pure industrial REIT before it was privatized in 2007 for $3.3 billion.In 2000, Robert became President and CEO of Roycom, assuming responsibility for the firm’s investment vehicles. Subsequently, he launched two new closed-end investment funds for a number of Canadian institutions, and created separate account mandates for three major pension funds.During his career, Robert oversaw more than $2 billion in real estate transactions for both pension fund clients and Summit REIT.Robert is a proud supporter of Coalition for Kids International, The Bridgeway Academy and Alta Gymnastics Club, and is a key fundraiser for the Bluenose Squash Classic, Canada’s largest international professional squash tournament.Rob has an Honours B.A. from the Richard Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario.
