Extensive leadership experience in market, credit, insurance, and operational risk in the property and casualty, life, and group benefit insurance sectors, as well as investment and commercial banking, and asset management. I served on the team that rebuilt The Hartford to a stronger financial position post-recovery; and drove decisive action during the crisis at Bank of NY Mellon, and anticipating the recession and softening its impact at JPMorgan. Nationally recognized Chief Risk Officer at The Harford, I created a stable and profitable path forward for the company after the 2008 financial crisis, including building an effective, centralized, and empowered ERM function. In my six-year tenure, the company paid back its "TARP" borrowings, instituted a firmwide annuity hedging program (managed by ERM), substantially de-risked and reshaped its franchise, sold three major business lines, and restored market capitalization.I served as risk manager for two different global financial institutions, leading up to and through the great recession. As Managing Director/Senior Risk Manager at JPMorgan, I was part of a small team that anticipated the coming crisis and established a massive hedging program, which substantially offset its impact. At BNY Mellon as Global Head of Market Risk during the most tumultuous years of the crisis, I was responsible for firmwide market risk as we navigated the bank’s balance sheet and asset management portfolio. I offer broad range of disciplines, including “front-line” business building and management responsibilities in both investment banking and commercial banking. I played a key role in 13 different mergers throughout my career, including Kidder Peabody/GE, Chase/JPM, and JPM/Bank One, honing a wealth of M&A experience. I continue to leverage his regulatory and legal experience from my early roles as a regulator for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and as a Partner in the law firm of Kutak Rock.
