Game Developer
Groningen, Netherlands
During my internship at the XR-Lab, I was involved in the development of serious games in VR (Pico 3 & Quest 2-3) for two clients, namely UMCG and Visio. For the UMCG project, I focused on researching and designing a game aimed at preparing children and alleviating the stress associated with undergoing an MRI.After completing the preparation for the research and design of the UMCG project, I transitioned to the Visio project. In this phase, I took on the role of a scrum master to gain more knowledge in the area of group dynamics. In the Visio project, during the second half of the internship, I focused on recreating the Visio Education location in Haren in 3D. The concept behind this was to teach children with visual impairments operational hearing skills in a playful manner within their familiar environment using VR.With the opportunity to be present at Visio's location one day a week, it became easier to incorporate feedback from the client. Through collaboration with the target audience, I gained insights into what is crucial for them. This internship taught me more than I could have hoped for. As a scrum master, it became clear which tasks had priority. I also discovered the value of working with a target audience that faces more challenges and how serious game development can provide enjoyable learning experiences for such groups.
