Robert Schröder is a retired airline captain with a flying-experience of 35 years, 15000 hours and more than 4000 hours in simulators. He flew Fokker 50, Boeing 737 and 747, MD-11 and Airbus 330/350 and 340. He finished his career in summer of 2021 as a Check- and Training-Captain for Lufthansa German Airlines. For more than 20 years he was also a flight safety manager. In 1997 he received training as an accident investigator at USC (University of Southern California). He participated in major accident investigations and conducted a large number of confidential reviews with flight crews, following safety relevant incidents.For 10 years he was editor in chief of Lufthansa ́s internal flight safety publication and has held a large number of internal talks and seminars. In the role of lead auditor, he also conducted several flight safety audits of other airlines.Since 2006 he has become an accomplished speaker on the subject of error- and safety culture, having held talks extensively for the medical profession, but also for companies like SAP, Daimler Benz, Thyssen-Krupp, EXXON Mobil, Statoil, Shell, BP, Deutsche Bank, R+V Insurance Company, the European School of Management and Technology and the British Ministry of Defence.In his talk „The Difference between Error and Failure“ Robert will focus on the aviation industries unique learning curve in understanding human interaction. By telling fascinating stories of air and space, he will show the potential benefits for almost any organization that strives to improve the quality of human performance.
