I run the day to day operations of the business as well as the system designs for our clients. Perfect Vision & Sound was developed after many years of being in the electronics business. I was fascinated by Radio and TV from the young age of 3, with help from my grandfather Anthony Serio. I started my first business back in 1969 at the age of 15, selling electronic items and stereo systems to friends and family. When I was 21, I worked for my family in the "high end audio business and specialized in custom installation" as far back as back in 1976. Realizing the new concept of "high end video and multi-channel surround sound" was coming of age, I felt it was time to start my own company. The Name says it all " Perfect Vision & Sound" My training for the business was given by many of the founding fathers of the Industry, most notably Mr. Gordon J. Gow, the president and co-founder of McIntosh Laboratory, which he started in 1949 . The training I received was to listen carefully to the prospective client and then design a system to meet their needs. I always do my best to provide first quality service!

Aug 1992 - Present

Associate Editor

High Performance Review Magazine

Woodbury, Connecticut

Back in 1988, I sent a letter to HPR magazine informing them that their recent story on turntable calibration was incomplete as well as incorrect. Shortly thereafter both the publisher, Hank Rupel and the editor, Steve Saunders, of the magazine called me and arranged for a visit to my family's store. After a nice conversation with them, they asked me to write a corrected story and it would be published. It was an instant success with their readers. Shortly thereafter, they contacted me again and asked me to be a contributor to the magazine and within several months asked me to come on board as the associate editor. My first major story was the announcement of THX Surround Sound. The Story I wrote was published 3 months sooner than any other magazine. Another first back in January, 1992 was the first public display of "multi-room/multi-source audio distribution. The system I put together demonstrated the ability to listen up to 4 different music sources, in 4 different rooms at the same time, along with a remote control. This presentation was to a standing room only crowd at the Grand Ball Room at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas. This is one of many presentations I moderated over the next 5 years.

Jun 1988 - Mar 1997

Manufacturers Representative

Presti Sales

West Hartford, Connecticut

I joined Steve Presti as a field representative for Connecticut, Western Massachusetts and Rhode Island. I was responsible for finding and maintaining new dealers for audio and video equipment as well as their accessories. I received the territory with a small active dealer base and under 3 years I had quadrupled sales and improved the active dealer base to over 50. During my time at Presti Sales, I learned quite a bit about the operations of major electronics manufacturers and how to interface with them. I also learned a good deal on how other retailers run their businesses. Overall this information has helped me round out my abilities in the marketplace today. As a result of top sales for the company, I was able to secure received several top honor national sales awards. One major accomplishment for me, was back in the mid 80's. Jensen speakers had bought the brand name "Advent" and wanted to include this speaker brand to their line up. They had bought the remaining inventory and were closing them out to dealers with the hopes of developing a new updated line of speakers. After months of anticipation for new speakers coming out, I was told they were still in development. I decided to call Ken Lindy, the acting president of Advent, and offered my services. He offered to fly me out to Chicago and work with the engineers about the design. Months later the speaker was developed and ready for presentation. It was agreed that the speaker will be presented at the 1984 CES show in Las Vegas and that I would do the presentation to announce the speaker to the entire national sales force, Jensen management and Beatrice Foods who was the parent company. The speaker, which was named the "Baby Advent" was an immediate success and written up by the industry as the best selling bookshelf speaker for 3 years thereafter !!!

Sales And Installation

The Stereo Shop

Initially my job entailed driving out to customers homes and diagnosing the issues they are having with their stereo system or FM or TV antenna system. After careful troubleshooting usually I would have to take back the customers equipment to the service dept and have the equipment repaired. As a result, with the many years of doing this I started to learn all about different brands of equipment, how they really worked and the associated installation methods needed for them to perform as intended. Many times customers would comment the system sounded better after I connected and adjusted it than when it was new.. After 1,000's of hours in the field I developed a technique on how to better reinstall different kinds of equipment. Eventually the company I worked for purchased a "Real Time 1/3 Octave Spectrum Analyzer". This allowed me to take field test measurements of speakers and how they reacted in a particular environment. This analyzer, also helped me to quickly listen to a speaker and hear the room resonances/ and peaks and dips in the speakers frequency response. With this information in hand, I could now provide factual information to a prospective client and faithfully recommend a speaker system for the applications intended. This included anything from typical home use to religious institutions. With that information in hand, I began to develop a system strategy of combining certain brands of equipment for the best results. I follow this concept till this day.

Jul 1976 - Jul 1982

Communications Dept

Swiss Bank Corporation

15 Nassau Street/120 Broadway

I worked in the New York City Office of Swiss Bank Corporation, on Wall Street. My main job was working in the Cable Department and to deliver Telex business transactions to specified departments including foreign exchange and trading. I was also responsible for manually filing approximately 4,000 transactions a day in alphabetical order. After a few months I actually knew the alphabetical order by just looking at the names. I was able to file everything is a few hours. After a year on the job, I was offered a full scholarship to Pace University to further study the banking business. However, I decided to move to Connecticut instead.

Mar 1972 - Jul 1976

Owner

Bobser

Bronx, New York

At the age of 15, I was interested in "what makes a business a business". I was watching TV and a television commercial kept comming on for "Project Score", featuring retired bussiness executives and how they can show you how to start a business. So I took the subway from the Bronx to 48th street in Manhattan. I waited my turn and the person I met with was the retired president of Orbachs department stores in greater NYC. He explained the paper work and I understood what to do. I was in business by the next day. I was able to purchase electronic equipment at wholesale prices and I was able to sell them at a discount to my friends and family.
