Responsible for all aspects of Vaupell’s aerospace composite business including oversight of our Lindenhurst, NY production facility. Vaupell was acquired in June, 2014 from H.I.G. Capital for $265 Million, allowing Sumitomo Bakelite to become an integrated supplier in the aerospace segment, providing diverse solutions that extend from raw materials, to molding processes, to painting and assembly. The composite business segment is an important growth segment within this division.

Responsible for technology developments in the composite field supporting SBNA’s automotive and oil/gas development interest in addition to material developments for aerospace applications. This position was 50/50 SBNA/Vaupell.

Seconded to Sumitomo Bakelite Co. Ltd’s Corporate Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan to accelerate research and development activities related to joint interests between SB and Promerus. In October, 2013, assigned a new product development group within SB’s Utsunomiya R&D Center facility, in addition to retaining oversight responsibility of Promerus. Sumitomo Bakelite Co., Ltd. is a global company with operations in 15 countries, approximately 5,000 employees (more than half are outside Japan), and approximately $2 Billion per year in revenue.

Served as the primary interface with the Sumitomo Bakelite Board of Directors and responsible for all matters at Promerus. Promerus has approximately $12 Million of invested capital in a flexible plant that allows synthesis of a variety of norbornene monomers and polymers with stringent purification standards expected in the semiconductor industry. This facility combined with Promerus’ chemical labs (15,000 ft2) and well instrumented analytical lab provides the capability of going from the synthetic bench scale to a production scale in a very short time-frame. Promerus employs world-class researchers, integrating the talents of 18 PhD Scientists, 17 MS Researchers, and 9 BS technically trained individuals with those of 24 motivated, non-degreed personnel. Promerus is ISO 9001 registered for development and manufacturing. Promerus’ annual R&D budget was approximately $15.2 Million per year during the above period.

Was responsible for business development activities for the semiconductor packaging activities since 2001, which included portfolio management, negotiating joint development agreements with Fortune 100 companies, negotiating licensing agreements, and strategic partner selection. Oversaw a process development initiative that increased plant capacity by >10X without capital infusion. Led a team that commercialized the world’s first addition polymerized polycyclic polyolefin, which to-date has been used in >800 Million CMOS Image Sensors.
