Bob Smartt has held senior management positions in planning, policy analysis, public affairs and public administration at the New Jersey Treasury Department, the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey and the New Jersey State Legislature.Bob retired from the New Jersey Treasury Department after serving as Deputy State Treasurer, Ethics Officer, State Contract Manager for the New Jersey Lottery gaming system and Administrator of the state Office of Telecommunications and Information Systems.Previously, he worked as Manager of the Port Authority Office of Strategy and Policy Analysis, and as Deputy Director of the General Assembly Majority Office.Bob has been involved with public broadcasting for many years, currently serving as a member of the NJTV Board of Trustees. He previously served as Acting Chairman and Treasurer of the Foundation for New Jersey Public Broadcasting Board of Trustees and represented the State Treasurer on the New Jersey Public Broadcasting Authority Board of Directors. He serves as a Visiting Associate at the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University, and is a member of the Eagleton team developing the Center on the American Governor.When he worked for the General Assembly, Bob was elected by his colleagues throughout the country to serve as Staff Vice President of the National Conference of State Legislatures, the highest-ranking staff officer on the Executive Committee. He also served on the Executive Committee of the Eastern Regional Conference of The Council of State Governments. Bob is experienced in press relations and political campaigns as well as public policy and public administration. He worked as a reporter and editor at the Daily Record in Morristown, as a reporter at The Star-Ledger, and as Deputy Press Secretary for the first Brendan T. Byrne gubernatorial campaign. Bob received a B.A. from Drew University and an M.B.A. from the Stern School of Business at New York University.
