Abstinence Planning takes another step to include developing the people, places and things that will move the person away from using. This workbook helps the person recognize their triggers, high risk situations and people they will need to avoid but more importantly, on what interests, hobbies, activities, people and support they need to develop in order to NOT think about using and fill their lives with things that will bring them fulfillment and satisfaction. Robert Snipes has been working with individuals who suffer from addiction since 2000. He has been certified as an addiction counselor by the Illinois Certification Board and has been working as the Director of Intensive Residential Treatment Program since 2010. He has been involved in developing a Re-Engagement to Recovery program for individuals who have had prior treatment but find themselves struggling to maintain their abstinence. This program focuses on recognizing their previous successes and getting them back to the actions that were allowing them to stay abstinent before. He has been a member and former president of The Southwest Coalition for Substance Abuse Issues in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, IL, provides Substance Abuse training for local employers and has trained counselors in recovery planning based on ASAM Criteria. Abstinence Planning was developed due to Robert’s recognition that traditional Relapse Prevention falls short of helping people develop a full life with activities that are fun, satisfying and will help feed and fulfill their soul.
