Forecast and analyze all major US economic indicators and components of GDP; Assess valuation for broad investment asset classes; Perform frequent client presentations on the US economy, investment outlook, and the interaction of politics and economic policy; Write/edit twenty published pieces per month, including data watches on monthly indicators, weekly economic outlooks, and periodic topical pieces on issues such as monetary policy or the housing market; Appear on TV and radio; Make client conference calls.

Supervise Office of Economic Policy, consisting of twenty economists and ten administrative staff; Brief the Treasury Secretary on the current state and future course of the US economy, short- and long-term budget trends, and the economic consequences of policy options; Direct Office of Macroeconomic Analysis, consisting of nine economists performing in-depth evaluations and analysis of the US, including indicators and forecasts, shocks, the labor market, housing, consumer balance sheets, energy prices, and financial trends; Participate in the formulation of domestic economic policies; Represent Treasury before interagency working groups including ones on manufacturing, spectrum management, and media ownership; Participate in formulation of Administration’s economic outlook (the “Troika”); Examine infinite-horizon budget impact of “real bracket creep”; Perform Article IV consultations with the IMF; Analyze external economic reports and studies; Provide press briefings.

Manage Committee’s Economics Group; Advise ranking member, committee staff, and staff of members on the outlook for the US economy, financial markets, and the federal budget; Analyze key economic indicators and events; Estimate and forecast budget revenue and balances; Consult with the Congressional Budget Office regarding the economic outlook and budget estimates; Prepare Committee’s Economic Bulletin; Contribute to Budget Bulletin; Write speeches, statements, questions, and briefing materials for hearings on tax policy, debt retirement, the budget and economic outlook, and the long-term budget outlook.

Develop tools to forecast changes in monetary policy, the forward return to stocks, economic growth, unemployment, inflation, and corporate profits; Design legislation to encourage emerging market countries to adopt the US dollar as official legal tender; Write reports and briefing materials, organize hearings, and conduct briefings on official dollarization; Monitor economic and financial trends in the US and abroad; Make presentations to Committee staff in conjunction with Federal Reserve’s semi-annual report on monetary policy; Prepare legislation to change the Fed’s policy mandate to price stability; Analyze Social Security reform plans; Advise US Delegation to International Financial Institutions’ annual meetings.

Advise Chairman and write reports and memoranda on macroeconomics, financial-markets, monetary policy, tax policy, the federal budget, and Social Security; Evaluate employment data; Monitor and critique international economic agencies; Write op-eds and speeches; Draft statements, questions, and briefing materials for hearings; Manage research projects; Screen nominees to the Federal Reserve and Treasury Department; Answer press inquiries; Contribute to response to the Economic Report of the President.
