Mr. Sakowitz founded the Hazak Corp., and became an independent full time marketing, strategic planning, and general business consultant in 1990, after twenty-nine years of executive and board advisory experience in the fashion retail, restaurant, real estate development, petrochemicals, manufacturing, transportation and financial services businesses. Since then, companies retaining his services have ranged in size of gross revenues from “start-ups” to $8 billion. Operationally, as President and Chief Executive Officer of Sakowitz, the Houston-based chain of high-fashion specialty stores, from 1975-1990 and as Executive Vice-President, General Merchandise Manager and Director of Sales Promotion for ten years prior, he built the company to international fashion recognition, taking sales from $32 to $155 million before the oil/energy crash in mid-1980s; instituting a turn-around until his Australian partner was liquidated. His contacts and business history cover knowledge from the United States, nations of the European Union, the Middle East and Asia. In addition to global trips related to his business, he has traveled on behalf of the City of Houston, The Houston Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Houston International Festival, and the Greater Houston Partnership specifically to the Philippines, England, France, Mexico, India, Argentina, China and Panama. For more information: www.hazak.com - "about Robert T. President & CeoSakowitz, Inc. 1963 - 1990Robert Sakowitz joined the company after two years at Macy's Herald Square in New York, as a buyer and rose to Merchandise Manager, GMM, then President and CEO, expanding it five-fold during his leadership. Sakowitz Inc. was a fashion retail specialty store in the Southwestern United States, headquartered in Houston,Texas. It was a family-owned and operated high-end specialty retailer in mens, womens and childrens apparel and accessories, furs, fine home furnishings (no furniture, appliances or "white goods") and gifts, gourmet foods and fine wines, among it's specialties. Known for personalized services, unique catalogue offerings, and introduction of international designers to America, it competed with Neiman-Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue and expanded to eighteen stores and boutiques and 2500 employees in Texas, Oklahoma and Arizona at its zenith. The energy bust of the mid-1980s devastated those states and wrought a reorganization and restructuring of the company through L.J. Hooker Corp of Australia in 1987. L.J.Hooker's demise in 1990 liquidated Bonwit Teller, B. Altmann, and Sakowitz retail store chains,as well as all the L.J. Hooker shopping centers and real estate investments.
