CurrentI focus my law practice primarily on the defense of insurance companies in first and third-party coverage cases. I litigate complex insurance cases in the Mid-Atlantic region. My practice also includes property insurance, the defense of insureds in third-party liability cases, as well as subrogation litigation. I graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia and Mercer University School of Law in Georgia. I began my career as a law clerk to the Chief United States District Court Judge in Atlanta, then served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. I am an active member of the Virginia, Georgia, and District of Columbia Bar Associations. I am honored to be AV Peer Review Rated (Highest) in Martindale-Hubbell, recognized as a Virginia Super Lawyer, Virginia Lawyers “Leader in the Law,” listed in The Best Lawyers in America and a Fellow of the American College of Coverage and Extracoutractual Counsel (ACCEC).I am a frequent author and speaker on national, regional and local levels, including at PLRB conferences on subjects ranging from “Ongoing Nightmares of Chinese Drywall” to “Commercial Large Loss Arson/Fraud Cases” and more. As a faculty member of the Virginia Law Foundation, I write and speak on topics such as “Duty of Good Faith” as well as “Taking and Defending Depositions”. I am also active in the civil defense bar, having served as a Director and 2-time “coverage” chair of the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys. I am a Master in the Lewis F. Powell, Jr. Inn of Court. I am also an Officer in the Virginia State Claims Association and a Director of the Richmond Claims Association. I am pleased to serve as the International Judge Advocate Emeritus (General Counsel) of the Honorable Order of the Blue Goose International, an insurance charitable organization. When away from the office, I am active at church, and enjoy travelling, cooking, and family activities.
