Having grown up in the iSimangaliso World Heritage Park I was influenced by conservationists and ecologists. I have long aspired to study and work in natural environments.• I have 5 years of diverse conservation ecology experience;• I have a B.Sc. in grassland science, a B.Sc. Honours in rangeland and wildlife conservation and a M.Sc. in ecology for which I was awarded a distinction and the Isaac Greenberg Prize for Ecology;• I am a registered Professional Natural Scientist.CORE COMPETENCIESEcology: I am skilled with vegetation monitoring and both plant and animal species identifications. I have experience in riparian and aquatic studies. I have worked on alien plant species, their impacts and the methods of their removal. I have an understanding of hydrology and wetland processes. I am familiar with wetland soil mapping. My Masters was a study of population ecology of baobabs in the Kruger National Park. I have a sound knowledge of conservation principles; Data Management: I am skilled in GIS, design and managing CyberTracker programs. I enjoy the challenges of learning and working with innovative technologies for data capture, interpretation and communication. I have a working knowledge of statistics and programming with ‘R’.Project Management: As an ecologist for the ecological company GroundTruth I manage projects – from the proposal and inception stage to finalisation.Technical and fieldwork: I have experience, working for SAEON, in Kruger National Park. I am comfortable working with and around dangerous game, I am competent in the use of a rifle for protection and I am comfortable living in remote areasEnvironmental Education:I have enjoyed working with communities as a mentor at environmental education camps and workshops I helped organise at both SAEON and GroundTruth.
