Lead a team of 4 scientists supporting natural microbial solutions for the animal productivity product lines of the Arm and Hammer Animal Nutrition business with accountability for automated data management, analysis, and reporting.

I work with our internal stakeholders to design, build and maintain data pipelines and analysis systems for our research and development scientists. It's a tricky feat, because I not only have to please our scientists, but also the non-technical folks in the field, and make sure everyone understands and agrees with the story that the data tells as well.

I started out in this position working in our research lab on the ruminant product development team. This role wore many hats for the team, researcher, lab technician, robotics engineer, programmer, analyst, etc. I had already been coding for fun for a while at this point, so I excelled at programming and analytics in this role, and blazed the trail within our company's division to start to develop production grade software for all of our research teams.

In this role I worked as a lab technician assisting the team with daily sample processing. Logging incoming samples, accurate measurements, aseptic techniques all to ensure the highest quality results. From the start in this position, I made the time to teach myself how to develop, troubleshoot and debug scripts to automate laboratory bench-work using the Fluent automated liquid-handler from Tecan. By doing that I was able to move DNA extraction and purification to our automated platform saving 3 hours of time daily per lab team for product research and development. I was promoted to Product Development Scientist II after three months.

During my time at Sartori I was responsible for the environmental monitoring program in their product conversion facility. I was able to develop additional tools and systems to help the quality department gather and organize years of disparate data sources. These tools, and the data that I gathered and organized, helped us pass an arduous auditing process to become a preferred vendor for one of our biggest customers.

I worked in the laboratory of Dr. Ava Udvadia, and was assigned to assist one of the Ph.D. students, now Dr. Ishwariya Venkatesh. This role is where I learned the fundamentals of critical thinking within a research-centric setting. The work I helped with centered around neuro-regeneration in a zebrafish model. We were able to develop a novel method to measure if certain transcription factors likely played a role in neuron regeneration in-vivo. This work helped to lay the foundation for several publications which came out of Dr. Udvadia's lab in subsequent years.
