Robert is Founder of the Kite Foundation, a not-for-profit think-tank that conducts research into the factors that inhibit learning transfer and develops solutions that support the application of newly learned capabilities in the workplace. As Editor of the UK Learning Transfer Survey he challenges the training and development industry to think beyond outmoded pedagogical models of learning, recognise that ‘knowing more’ is no guarantee of ‘doing better’ and embrace new models of personal development that focus on transfer and application rather than the classroom. In over 25 years of consultancy Robert has worked at Board level in blue chip organisations and government departments in the UK, North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Africa. In 1994 Robert founded ASK Europe plc, a management and leadership development consultancy that has pioneered the use of techniques developed in psychotherapy to facilitate sustainable and measurable behavioural change. In 2000 Robert joined the Board of the Adam Smith Institute, the UK’s leading free market economics think-tank, where he held a number of Board appointments including Chief Executive. During his time with the ASI, his areas of particular interest were the impact of trade liberalisation, de-regulation and privatisation on organisational performance and the reform of the institutions of Government, in which respect he has had involvement in post-conflict reconstruction projects in Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan. Foremost amongst his remaining ambitions is to raise £300 million to support the education of children in economically disadvantaged communities at home and abroad. Although his career as a fast jet pilot in the Royal Air Force is long behind him, Robert combines his lifelong passion for aviation with a less lofty affection for Derby County Football Club, whose trials and tribulations he bears with good humour.Specialties: Solutions to the 'learning transfer' problem.

ChairmanAsk Europe Plc May 1994 - PresentCranfield, EnglandHaving done every other job since founding the company, the post of Chairman looked like a sensible place to go. I still enjoy the opportunity to work with the brightest and the best in the world of commerce but I'm enjoying massively the time I now have to write and to explore new solutions to old problems. -
Managing DirectorAsk Europe Plc Jul 1994 - Jan 2011ASK was founded by Robert Terry in 1994. Since its foundation, the company focused on the attitudinal and behavioural challenges associated with effective leadership and management; providing individuals with insights into their behaviour and coupling this increased self-awareness with knowledge and skills improvements to deliver sustainable improvement in performance.Early projects included supporting major restructuring within Barclays Bank, transforming the banking industry in Eastern Europe, and assisting in the implementation of paradigm-breaking technology in Canada. In 1998, ASK announced its acquisition of Cambridge Management Centres (founded 1982), expanding our expertise and extending the company’s portfolio to incorporate world class open programmes attended by companies such as Eli Lily and Coca-Cola.As our methodology for delivering sustainable change continued to evolve, in 2003 ASK became the first training company in the UK to use the ResultsEngine follow-through technology. In 2005, we extended the service ASK provides to clients by introducing CourseBooker – a dedicated, secure area of our website that enables participants to book directly onto our open programmes via the internet.Reflecting our commitment to quality, ASK gained initial ISO 9001:2000 accreditation in 2000 (subsequently extended to 2009) and was named an “Investor in People” in 2001.
