Always wanting to know how things work, led me to a career as a Toyota service technician for 9 years. During that time, I began the hobby of woodworking. I quickly found that designing, building and creating objects for a specific purpose was my true passion in life. This sent me back to school at IUPUI for my bachelors degree in mechanical engineering. While at IUPUI, I utilized my technician skills and experience as a team leader to be accepted as a teaching assistant for the electrical circuits class. After 2 semesters, I was hired on as a design engineer intern at the Auto Research Center. This is where I knew I had made the correct decision on going back to school and my passion for designing was fulfilled. I was designing scale model components for race cars, such as John Force's Top Fuel car. The downside to this position was I was stuck in front of a computer all day and missed the building that I also enjoyed. I applied for an internship at NSK the summer before my last semester hoping to fix this. My role at NSK is a great fit, allowing me to design and also build. My position as a project engineer allows me to see the project from inception, to prototype, to completion. This has allowed me to learn and develop many new skills and technologies including Fanuc robot programming and advanced SolidWorks training.
