Bob has been with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) since 2005, and during this time has been a topic leader and led their Global Procurement business. When leading the practice, he led its growth which exceeded 10% per year. He has also been a member of the Global Operations Leadership team, Expert Career Track development team, Officer (partners) Development Committee, and led lateral hiring of Partners in North America.He has dedicated his career and time in consulting to procurement and supply management. He has worked across many industries including energy, aerospace and defence, telecom, financial services, consumer products, and retail, as well as the public sector at the city, state, and federal level.Bob’s focus has always been to help clients drive more value from their external spend via strategic sourcing, supplier collaboration, demand management, and advanced levers like should cost analysis. He has helped his clients buy hundreds of millions of spend better and normally delivers 5-10% savings. He is passionate and committed to positioning procurement as a competitive advantage and has experience helping his clients unlock the potential of the function. He is also passionate about sharing his experience and expertise when building high performance teams.Bob has also helped clients negotiate successfully with “monopoly” suppliers. Additionally, Bob has published articles on a wide variety of topics including "How to Negotiate with Powerful Suppliers" (July/August edition of the HBR). In 2020, he co-authored an Institute for Supply Management featured article entitled the Procurement Renaissance. He also published on a wide variety of topics including commodity management, supplier risk management, talent development in supply management, and effective procurement in the public sector.Before joining BCG, Bob worked for A. T. Kearney and specialized in procurement and supply management, as well as general cost reduction.Prior to his time at A. T. Kearney, Bob worked for ICI Americas. Initially he was in a corporate training program focused on supply management, then as a buyer and purchasing agent. Bob was elevated to operations manager for a new chemical plant, and then served in a sales role. Bob has a bachelors degree in Mineral Economics, from Penn State (highest distinction). He also has an MBA from the University of Delaware.
