After completing the necessary requirements for a certificate in Computer Aided Design at Oakland Community College, I started my career as a designer/CNC programmer in 1990 at W.K. Industries. My duties included prototype injection mold and compression mold tool design, and programming CNC tool path. I started using CATIA V3 soon after it was ported from mainframe to the stand-alone UNIX workstation. After six years I decided to make a change from prototype tooling to production design with brief stops at Cardell and Solvay Automotive before settling in here at Autoliv, where I have been employed for the past 16 years. Cardell was a manufacturer of automotive electrical connectors and was acquired by Molex soon after my stay. I was trained to use ProEngineer to perform my design duties. I did not find the work challenging, but very much appreciated the opportunity to move into the production arena. My next move was to Solvay Automotive where I was reunited with an old familiar friend, CATIA. And my duties at Solvay fell right into my wheelhouse, which is CATIA surface modeling. The division of Solvay that I worked at manufactured blow molded fuel tanks and various fuel system components. Again, not very exciting or challenging work so I moved to Autoliv. My duties at Autoliv have included, but not limited to, class ‘A’ customer surface changes, B-side attachments, etc. I also lead the effort in bringing CNC capabilities to our prototype machine shop. I have since migrated into the Steering Wheel ‘D’ group. In addition to CATIA V5 I also used Alias Surface Studio for many of my extensive class ‘A’ surfacing projects.Skills: CATIA designer since 1990. GSD & FSS experienced.
