As a health care consultant, I provided assistance and insight to healthcare organizations in need of enhanced financial leadership. With over thirty years in healthcare financial management, I supported healthcare providers in a variety of ways. Whether serving as an interim Chief Financial Officer or providing additional financial leadership bandwidth for a business in transition, my first priority was always protecting my clients’ interests. Significant projects included serving as interim CFO for a large healthcare foundation and pre- and post-transaction assistance for a large not-for-profit health system engaged in an asset sale to a national for-profit healthcare chain.

While at the helm of financial leadership at Bayfront Health System, I facilitated an unprecedented transformation of the number one health care provider in south Pinellas County, Florida. Working with limited sources of available capital, Bayfront made a number of key strategic investments and opened several new facilities which expanded its capacity in service lines vital to the community and to the success of the organization including the Bayfront Baby Place at All Children’s Hospital; the James Heart Center; twelve (12) new, state of the art operating suites; and Bayfront Physician Specialty Services (wholly-owned, multi-specialty physician group developed through targeted practice acquisitions and physician employment agreements). These investments were made possible through several initiatives that I deployed at Bayfront including the implementation of a corporate finance approach to strategic financial planning, the development of strong controls over operational spending, and the use of other creative and non-traditional sources of capital (monetization of non-core assets, syndication of certain service lines through joint-ventures, off-balance sheet financing, etc.)Also, throughout my tenure at Bayfront, I secured millions of dollars of state and local funding to support Bayfront’s significant commitment to the community which included supplying the lion’s share of all local charity care as well as continued investments in trauma care and physician teaching programs, among other things. In 2010, I created a new captive insurance company, wholly-owned by Bayfront, to provide an efficient vehicle to insure professional and general liability risks for the hospital, ancillary providers and affiliated physicians.From 2002 to 2013, I spearheaded the implementation of Bayfront’s fully-integrated electronic health and financial record to better align quality processes and outcomes with revenue.
