After more than 40 years working in the magazine publishing industry, including more than a decade at Supply Chain Management Review and the NextGen Supply Chain Conference, I am now retired.

At Peerless Media, we launched the NextGen Supply Chain conference in 2019 to provide senior level supply chain managers with a venue to learn about the technologies shaping tomorrow's supply chains in an intimate setting that fosters learning, sharing and networking with colleagues.

I have been writing about the materials handling industry since 1984. This is one of the most exciting times to be involved in automated systems in warehouses and distribution centers, and I look forward to continuing to cover the industry into the future. Those who know me, know that while I've made my living in publishing, I've had a secret life as the co-owner with my wife of Dilly's For Kids, a children's and women's clothing, accessories and gift store that opened in 1984. Just a week ago, on February 4, Dilly closed the register for the last time and announced that we were closed after 32-1/2 years and a very successful 6 week going out of business sale. People have asked if it was sad; certainly for Dilly it was bittersweet. At the same time, so many small businesses and retailers these days are forced out by bankruptcy. We had the gift of closing after one of our best years since the recession, still profitable, and going out on our own terms. It was a great run.
